Like a few other people on my friends list, I'm moving, too.
Cheyn put an offer on a house Sunday night, and by yesterday afternoon, it was ours. Now, this was after many weeks of searching on his budget. I am very happy with the house we found. It's really comfortable. It's in Melvindale, which is really the only set back. Now I have to pack everything. Oh god, where do I start? I've never packed everything up all at once before!

Just signed on to facebook since it has been a while... found out that Dr. Tiller was murdered. I feel sick about this, and find it absolutely disgusting. Although, it does not surprise me.
Dr. Tiller was a doctor from Kansas who has helped thousands of women have safe abortions, specializing in late term terminations.
Tell me again, if you will... How can one person (a man, mind you) think it is NOT okay for a woman to have an abortion, but think it IS okay (and the right thing) to MURDER the doctor who performs the surgery? repulsive. This is why Christians believe in one god, dude... and that god is NOT you.
The murderer walked in to Dr. Tiller's CHURCH and shot him while he was ushering. Really? Absolutely repulsive.
Another example of how the concept of children is more important to some people than actual children themselves.

Last night, Cheyn and I went out with my mom and dad and some girls and their husbands I work with at Park Place. So I realized that I never post anymore. In the past, I would update like once a day. hrm.
Basically the most political thing in my life is my job. I'm not really fond of politics or politicians. Sorry to say, I'm pretty much ignorant to all of this political mayhem that is ensuing across the nation as of late. I don't choose to be ignorant about many things, but politics are usually one of them. I do realize that this is probably one of the silliest and ignorant things to be ignorant about, but there's too much foolishness involved. To be obvious, McCain is not my choice, and to be surprising, I don't really like Obama much either. I don't even know if I spelled Obama correctly, to be honest. But really, there's never going to be anyone that's "perfect," or maybe not even "good enough," because I don't know exactly what that means to me, as far as politicians go.
The owner of the centers I work for is all about Obama and supporting women's rights and yadayada, and I feel kind of like he's being shoved down my throat because I'm female and pro-choice. I suppose I should look in to his other policies, as well as McCain's, to get a better understanding. I would also like to figure out who the hell else is out there to run this damn place. We don't need any more Kwame's around these parts, either.
What I don't understand is why women's rights are such a big deal. Women's rights are the rights of people. Let's not be sexist.
Oh wait, that's the whole problem. (I hate the word "sexist," because it's used so much stereotypically.. and truthfully, the word shouldn't even have to exist.)
I don't want women to have to have abortions; no one does, really. If someone needs an abortion, I want abortions to be accessible, safe, comfortable, and legal. I don't want to have to think that my job is my political statement, because it isn't. It's just what I want to do to help people.
Right now, there is an anonymous donor who has given a multi-million dollar donation to the National Abortion Federation (NAF). Offices, such as mine, who are accredited by NAF are inspected regularly, kind of like inspections for insurance carriers. This amazing donor has allowed us to help probably over thousands of women since last November with paying for their abortion. Based on income and family size, most women who qualify for Medicaid and its plans qualify for this financial assistance. I think they're trying to prove the need of women with Medicaid should have coverage for abortion, since they cover absolutely nothing involved with that. I understand, yes, people don't want to have to pay for people to get abortions. But I certainly don't want to pay for unwanted children for the rest of their lives, either. I don't want unwanted/unplanned children to be raised like they're being raised now because their mother couldn't afford an abortion. I don't want women going through unwanted pregnancies without pre-natal care. I don't want to increase the overpopulation we already have going for us.
I want women (and men, duh) to be well taken care of. Most of the women I see, basically because of demographics in the community in which I work, don't have a regular physician and never have. They don't go to the doctor when they're sick. They're generally not in good health. Really. We take good care of them. We keep them safe, comfortable, and treat them with the dignity and respect they deserve.
I believe women deserve a positive abortion experience. That's what I provide, and I am proud of that. Taking care of people is my political sway.
Northland Family Planning, where I work, has a "motto," if you will: We make the world a better place for women. Sure, some people are total assholes, but you'll find that no matter what you do. Some people just aren't used to being taken care of. Some people think we're too nice or fake or some other crap, because we smile and are nice to them. That's the sad part about my job... when I believe they should be taken care of, and they're so not used to it, they think we're being condescending. NO. We love you as a fellow human and want you to take care of taking care of yourself when you leave us here today.
Please, don't get pregnant if you don't want to. If it happens, it happens. Don't let yourself go to some abortion dump where you are unsafe just because it's cheap. That's the other thing that scares me. I have to literally use marketing to get patients, because the abortion market is so competitive where I work. There are a LOT of offices around my office, within close proximity, even. They're cheaper than us for a reason.
I didn't mean for this to be, like, YAY NORTHLAND... I meant this to be a real thing about how I really am in life right now, since I haven't done that in a long time. Being pro-choice is part of my life. Probably one of the biggest parts of my life.

I know I haven't posted in like one million years. So I've been working at the most fantastic abortion/family planning/gynecology office in the world for almost a year. Yesterday was my first day as the manager of one of three of our offices. In case anyone in the area was wondering about an article in the Detroit News yesterday (http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080311/METRO/803110329 - check it outtt, we're in one of the photos, showing proper waste management containers), we're the model clinic who does things right, according the law. I'm averaging around 50 hours a week, and still working at Park Place every once and a while. I seriously love my job. It's a great feeling.
I went out to lunch with my dad today, and ran in to my two favorite teachers from high school. It was really nice to see them. They're extraordinary men. I thanked them for what they do, especially having my little brother in their classes, and for trying to make a difference for him like they did for me. Alas, their charms only worked on me.
I've been slowly trying to fix up the house I live in with Cheyn. The process is long and grueling... but one day, I will have a pretty fabulous place to live.

To the few of you who have files stored on my webspace: I am going to be cancelling dysconnection.com soon. I've had it for almost 5 years now, and haven't really done anything with it for a long time. I pretty much just use it to store photos on. I don't really have the money to keep paying for it anymore. :( Make sure you have copies of your stuff on your computers, so any of your stuff isn't lost forever. I don't think any of you use it much, but I'm sorry anyway.

I got my first brand new car. The Lumina is in retirement after seven years. Monday, after much consideration, I drove home with my fabulous Chrysler Sebring. Goodbye money, hello not being terrified to drive.
